Advice from Meeting with Neighbourhood Planning Team:

As mentioned I have had a phone meeting with the Council Neighbourhood Planning Team to answer questions regarding how to approach feedback submissions now due 11.59pm Monday 26 July 2021. I must thank Jennifer for how informative & helpful they were.

Some of the points we discussed and the advice given is listed below:

  • We were advised FIRST & FOREMOST to take the survey before completing the feedback form as this may prompt further issues in addition to your current ones you may already wish to address.
  • Say ‘What you support in the draft strategy and WHY’ – stress any positives in your view! For example proposed Shadeways ie location, are you happy with the proposed location, if not suggest an alternative or an addition & why ie more substantial trees are needed to help mitigate the Urban Heat Island Effect (urban areas become significantly warmer than surrounding areas when there is less green cover and more hard surfaces which absorb, store and radiate heat)
  • Say ‘What you DON’T support and WHY’ - stress any negatives in your view. An example could be the ‘solar shading’ effect that high-rise development will have on many households with solar panels. High-rise structures will shade solar panels hence hindering the ability to generate renewable energy.
  • In response to what you don’t support, propose alternatives! It is inevitable that more people will be moving into this area with the cross river rail project hence the proposed transit-oriented development. Alternatives NEED to be offered otherwise they will go with the current proposal. For example, my partner & I have proposed a new rezoning map.
  • Iterate the points on the letter from Moorooka Ward plan that you support; respond with why they are important to you, your family, your community and/or the protection of our history, our heritage and the city’s architecture & culture.
